About us

Garret and Hurst Sculpture

Garret and Hurst is a family-run company that has specialised in 19th century sculpture since 1992. The company was founded by Margaret Cowley and Wendy Grellman who decided to concentrate exclusively on their first love - sculpture - after some years of trading as general antique dealers. In 2003 Margaret's son, Peter, joined the business  and to help with the expanding workload his partner, Keiko, also joined up in 2007.

We are based in Sussex and exhibit at major Fine Art and Antiques fairs throughout the UK, including the LAPADA and London Olympia fairs. We also exhibit a permanent display of sculpture at the Edenbridge Galleries in Kent.

We pride ourselves on reflecting the art of 19th sculpture in our acquisition of signed figurative and animalier pieces of the highest quality by the master sculptors who exhibited at the Paris Salons.  The difference between high quality 19th century casts and those later casts and imitations, often of poorer quality, that make up 20th century production make it important to discriminate between the two. This is the role that Garret & Hurst fulfils and as leading specialists in the field we are working to promote the increasing knowledge of and interest in sculpture from this fascinating period, we are currently researching  and writing a book on portrait sculpture.
